Charlamagne Tha : A distraction

 

In the wake of Kanye West’s recent visit to the White House for a sit down with President Trump, IHeart Radio’s program; Breakfast Club co-host, Charlamagne tha God has canceled an interview with Kanye West, a TimesTalks event that was scheduled for October 17 where they would discuss the normalization of being mentally healthy.

The issue at hand was to have a true and meaningful discussion of mental health, particularly the negative stigma in the black community that discourages many to keep quiet about their struggle. The announcement of the canceled interview came via Charlamagne tha God’s Instagram.

In the post, Charlamagne tha God wrote that an interview at this time would be a total distraction from a very important issue. His disappointment was clear, Charlamagne tha God admired Kanye West for his willingness to not only be vocal about mental illness but also share his own struggles with the disease.

This, however, has not been the first time these two meet. Back in 2016, Charlamagne tha God interviewed Kanye West for almost two hours in where he spoke about his breakdown that led to West being sent to the hospital. West recalls coming through that time in his life as a stronger individual. It would not take long for Kanye West to make headlines once again.

Recently, on his Twitter, West posted a video speaking about the dangerous platforms of social media. He explains that it is a sort of mind control technique which leads people to commit suicide due to the lack of likes they receive. Read This Article for additional information.

Charlamagne Tha God Advocates For Victims Of False Sexual Abuse Accusations

 

Television personality and popular radio presenter Charlamagne Tha God is known for many things. He is a co-host on the hit morning show The Breakfast Club, as well as a video jockey for The Week in Jams. Additionally, he has starred in the reality shows Guy Code, Guy Court and Girl Code. He even wrote a book back in 2017 titled Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It. Despite his rising fame Charlamagne, who began life as Lenard Larry McKelvey, is no stranger to controversy. Most recently he has been dealing with the subject of sexual assault, a hot topic currently saturating the whole of the U.S. Charlamagne represents another side to this topic however, a side that is starting to get a little more attention.

In the wake of the recent Kavanaugh fiasco a group of victims are garnering some more attention. These are the falsely accused, individuals who have had fingers pointed at them for allegation that turned out to be nothing. In Charlamagne’s case it revolves around an old incident dating back to 2001. An incident brought back to light seventeen years later. Jessica Reid, who was 15 at the time, alleged that Charlamagne Tha God raped her during a party he hosted.

Charlamagne Tha God plead guilty to the charge of contributing a the delinquency of a minor, but claimed he left the party early and never assaulted anybody. No evidence implicating Charlamagne was found, and no formal charges were pressed buy Ms. Reid at the time. The case has since been dismissed. See Related Link for additional information.

The problem that exists for people like Charlamagne is not the accusation itself, but the whirlwind surrounding that accusation. In many cases such individuals are convicted instantly in the realm of public opinion. No due process served, their reputations immediately besmirched. In a society driven by social media much damage can be done. Careers have been ruined over accusations that turned out to be completely untrue. The celebrated Breakfast Club host is taking it in stride however, stating that he is grateful for the platform it now gives him. He can use his experience to help other victims of false accusation.
