People often use the term worldview to describe things. But oddly enough, it’s seldom used to refer to the ways in which people actually get out and look at things. It’s somewhat ironic, but the best way to get out and view the world is through interaction with someone that has a different worldview. There’s a few people out there who are filled with a special type of passion for the world. And there’s few individuals who exemplify this more than Andy Wirth.
There’s quite a few reasons why he’s such a good example. But one of the biggest is his recent appointment as chairman of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Board. A passion for the outdoors and a chairman position at an airline might not seem to go together at first. But the title and the actual responsibilities which come with the position aren’t always readily apparent.
Because this isn’t a position suited to people who want to spend their life locked away in an office. The whole point of the position is to bring in someone with a passion for the outdoors and to have them share it with others. While also helping those same people realize just how easy it is to use local services to head out into new adventures in the great outdoors.
Even aside from a singular passion for the outdoors, there’s a few other reasons why Andy Wirth is such a perfect match for the job. One amusing note is that he’s sometimes been called the skydiving CEO. Wirth getting into air travel on a more professional level just seems like a great match in a lot of ways. But perhaps more on the nose is the fact that he’s spent a huge amount of his professional life doing something very similar.
Andy Wirth is also the CEO of Squaw Valley Ski. And he’s been especially notable there for the simple fact that it’s always been a labor of love. It’s always obvious when someone in that position is more interested in short term profit than long term sustainability.
But Andy Wirth has gone to quite significant efforts to not only maintain the natural beauty of his resort, but to help foster that same dedication in his neighbors as well. He’s acted in many ways as a diplomat to help ensure that everyone’s on the same page as far as keeping the area beautiful and as a showcase for natural wonder. After having worked hard to ensure the beauty of the area it’s obvious that there’s few more suited to describing it to the world. Or to helping interested parties book tickets for their next vacation.
