Whitney Wolfe is a Mover and Shaker in the World of Technology

Whitney Wolfe is an entrepreneur and businesswoman. She is a product of Salt Lake City, Utah, and attended Southern Methodist University majoring in International Studies. Her first foray into business occurred while she was in college. She started a business selling tote bags made from bamboo. The profits from the sale benefited areas that were affected by the BP oil spill. The business called the “Help Us Project” became a collaborative effort between Wolf and Patrick Aufdenkamp, celebrity stylist. After Wolfe completed her college studies she went to Southeast Asia to work with orphanges.

Wolfe took up with Hatch Labs, and was soon involved with Cardify, a small business start-up, working with a businessman and entrepreneur Sean Rad. It was at Hatch Labs IAC Incubator that Wolfe was the co-founder of the dating application (app) Tinder. The other co-founders were Rad, Justin Mateen and Chris Gulczynski. The app came to life in 2012 and within the Hatch Labs start-up incubator. Whitney Wolfe took on the role of Vice President in charge of marketing for Tinder. She was also the strongest proponent for the name “Tinder.”

Whitney Wolfe is credited with its skyrocketing popularity, especially on college campuses. Her marketing strategies were also invaluable when it came to growing its user base. Wolfe eventually left Tinder and took on a partnership offering from Andrey Andreev, who founded Badoo, a chatting and dating site to create a dating platform. Even though the company remains under the majority ownership of Badoo, the collaboration resulted in an alternative dating app called Bumble. The particular dating app gives women more control than most other traditional dating apps. In about a year, the Bumble app had hit more than 15 million unique conversations and more than 78 million matches.

By the spring of 2016, Tinder and Bumble were two of the most popular dating app’s according to their individual monthly base of users.

In 2014, Whitney Wolfe was named one of the Business Insider’s 30 Most Important Women under 30 and in 2016; she was recognized as one of Elle’s Top Women in Technology.
